Nature and Scope of Advice

We provide financial advice in relation to mortgages and personal loans. We may recommend products from some or all of the following lenders or product providers. If we can only provide advice on certain providers or product types, this will be explained before we proceed with our advice.

Lenders we work with

  • ANZ

  • ASB

  • BNZ

  • Westpac

  • SBS

  • The Co-operative Bank

  • Heartland Bank

  • Liberty Financial

  • Pepper Money

  • Prospa

  • Southern Cross Partners

Fees and Expenses

We do not normally charge fees for providing financial advice or arranging a loan. This is because we are generally paid in the form of commission from the lender if you take out a loan following our advice. However, in certain circumstances, we may charge a fee. If a fee applies, we will tell you the amount (or how it will be calculated), when it will be payable, and include this in our written disclosure before we proceed.

An example of a situation where a fee may be charged is: if you receive a loan approval through our advice and guidance, and subsequently decide to proceed with the services of another lender or adviser, a fee will be charged to compensate us for our time and the lost opportunity to earn a commission on the loan we facilitated.

Another example of a situation where a fee may be charged is: if you obtain a loan through our advice and cancel or refinance it within 28 months, the lender may require us to repay some or all of the commission they paid us (this is called a “clawback”). To recover this amount, we may charge you a clawback recovery fee. This fee will reflect the amount clawed back and the time, expertise, and work involved in providing our service.

Any fees relating to the loan application will be set out in your lender’s letter of offer and are paid directly to the lender. You will need to pay fees to other parties involved in finalising your loan. This may include lawyers, valuers, building inspectors, etc. Further details about Fees and Expenses will be provided in our written Disclosure Statement before we give advice.

Conflicts of Interest and Commissions

We may receive commissions from product providers if you proceed with a loan or product we recommend. Typically, we may receive an upfront commission and, from some providers, an ongoing (trail) commission as well. The amount and type of commission depend on the provider and product type. This will be disclosed in writing before you act on our advice.

We follow Finsure NZ’s Conflicts of Interest Policy and maintain a Conflict of Interest Register to record and manage potential, actual, or perceived conflicts, gifts, and incentives in line with the Financial Advice Code standards. We prioritise our clients’ interests by following a robust advice process, undergoing regular training, and participating in Finsure’s ongoing compliance and assurance programme.
